Why a client fired me and I agree with them. 2 tips to avoid getting fired too
A client fired me and must wholeheartedly agree with why they did it. If I was in their situation I would also fire me.
It was many years ago and I started a new relationship with a customer. It was the early days of the internet and many new technologies, as well as new methods, came out on a monthly basis.
One day sitting in his office he asked me about some new method that people are using to drive traffic to their websites. I did not know too much about it and neither did I show much interest in it. So I just shrugged my shoulders and said I could do a little of this and a little of that and charge a ton of money for it.
Needless to say, that was the last time I ever heard from that client. I mean we already worked together for more than 1,5 years and they have spent a lot of money with me. They never emailed me again. They never called me again.
I forgot the biggest reason for being in business. To be there to relieve pain and discomfort from the client’s life. And I did not do it. I was cocky about it. The clients looked at me and probably thought “This guy is not here to help me, I am better off to help myself”. And he was right.
He helped himself and became SO good at solving the problem they asked me to solve that they became one of the leaders in that field and made tons of money selling their knowledge to others.
Never forget the golden rule. You are there to help remove pain from clients lives. When you do work for them, meet them or quote them, ask yourself: “Am I really taking away the maximum amount of pain from their lives and am I charging a fair price for it?”.
Client fired me Tip #1: Grow with your clients
When a client has an issue you can solve, go and learn how to solve it.
Client fired me Tip #2: Grow your clients as you grow
You Can add more value to customers as you grow. So as you grow so should your customer.
