Failure is not the end of you. Trying to avoid failure will be the end of you

I have failed and I have failed spectacularly. I have failed in the past and I will fail in the future. I will fail somewhere, somehow today and I will fail somehow tomorrow. That is fine. It is not something I always enjoy or am in the mood for. Failure does not kill you. It can kill a business idea, it can kill a career track and even kill a marriage. But it won’t kill you, well, unless you failed an IT project for the Mafia. That could kill you, I think. Failure does not mean the end of you. Your life will still continue and something else will come along. Trying to avoid failure, now that will mean the end of you. When you try to avoid failure, you do the following – you keep things constant and predictable. You keep things safe and you get no surprises. Similar to a dead guy in a coffin. Every day is the same day. Like the guy in the coffin, you will have no impact in this world. You will not even be noticed. You have zero impact in this lifetime. When you die one day, nobody will really notice. Some might cry for a while, but then they see that you never really had any influence or impact upon their lives and then they forget you. Avoiding failure is avoiding growth. Only through failure do you learn what works and what does not. What works for you and what does not. What will give you the success you want and what will not. Avoiding growth is choosing not just a path of stagnation but a path of regression and insignificance. Without failure you will not become whom you were made to be in this world. Without failure you will not discover and develop your purpose. Without failure you will not discover how to bring your impact into this world. So if I may recommend an action for the week, it is to try to do things right. Aim for success. But if you fail, cry, kick and scream to get rid of the emotions (I do sometimes) and then stop and reflect. Learn what you can, discuss it with your coach, mentor or spouse. Grow and move forward. You are too important not to break through barriers and become who you are meant to be. You are a gift to this world, go and give it this week.
